Why Do These Keep Popping Up on the Streets of Mexico?
Street Artist Isaac Cordal
The artist is well-known for his miniature cement figures found in public places around the world as part of an ongoing series called 'Cement Eclipses'.

Miniature Cement Skeletons
In Chiapas the locals have been finding tiny sculptures which are "intentionally ambiguous", but yet entices one's imagination to look at each piece and project as a story.

New Skeletal Figures
With these new skeletal works, one can't help but think of Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead). Although the artist claims his work is more about "humankind’s tragic moments".

Tragic Moments
The tiny figures often appear in scenes of mourning or despair, as part of what Cordal says is commentary on man's disregard for nature and as "foreshadowing of potential consequences".

This Little Wall Hole
The sculpture installations are found in gutters, on top of buildings, on top of bus shelters; in many unusual and unlikely places.

An Unassuming Suprise
Cordal's art works are also found in camouflaged, unassuming spaces. Imagine walking by, you might not see this tiny sculpture unless you were paying attention to your immediate surroundings and environment?

Our Attention & Awareness
How often it is that we're lost in our own thoughts and even miss "normal-sized" people around us, no less zoom into a made-up scene of this tiny old skeletal being who seems to be doing routine tasks?

This One's In Jail
Cordal's says, "These small sculptures contemplate the demolition and reconstruction of everything around us. They catch the attention of the absurdity of our existence."

Sympathetic Works
The artist is sympathetic toward his little people and one empathizes with their situations: "their leisure time, their waiting for buses and even their more tragic moments such as accidental death, suicide or family funerals".

In Vienna 'ArtScape 2014'
The ‘Cement Eclipses’ project was also part of the BLK River Festival in Vienna. Cordals' works there featured recognizable mass cultural items or activities, such as these random figures with shopping carts.
