Gardening really can help you make the earth move, according to a new study which found it improves men's sex lives.

As little as 30 minutes a week tending the garden or allotment can dramatically improve men's performance in bed, according to the experts in the field.

Digging, weeding or mowing the lawn for half an hour reduced men's risk of failing to live up to expectations in bed by more than a third, the survey found.

The same study showed other forms of moderate exercise, such as dancing and cycling, could have similar benefits.

Men who spend even more time in the vegetable patch can more than halve their risk of impotence, researchers at the Medical University of Vienna found in their study.

"Erectile function can be maintained even by low, regular physical activity," concludes the report. "Energy expenditure of as little as 1,000 calories a week reduces the risk. Doctors should use these findings to encourage their patients to do more physical training and adopt a healthier lifestyle."

Impotence is thought to affect one in ten men in Britain at some stage in their life.

Around 30 per cent of cases are due to psychological factors, such as depression or pressure at work.

But the remaining 70 per cent have some underlying physical cause, such as diabetes or high blood pressure.

Some doctors believe it is an early sign of heart disease as reduced blood flow to the genitals is a sign of clogged arteries.

Two-thirds of sufferers become depressed.

Although a healthy lifestyle is known to help combat impotence, until now there has no clear indication just how much is needed.

The latest study, published in the journal European Urology, shows men do not have to be keep-fit fanatics to reap the benefits and need to burn just 1,000 calories a week.

This equates to gardening for 30 to 45 minutes, dancing for half an hour, cycling four miles in 15 minutes or jogging 1.5 miles in the same time.

This reduced impotence by around 38 per cent, the research showed.

Men who burned off up to 4,000 kilocalories a week saw their impotence risk drop almost 52 per cent.

Gardening programmes and presenters such as Alan Titchmarsh and Charlie Dimmock have created a surge in the popularity of gardening.

There has been a huge growth in the popularity of allotments and the move towards organic food has made growing your own vegetables fashionably.

Some people have become so obsessed about their garden that there are worries that people are getting addicted to the pursuit just like they would to gambling or drugs.

The findings by scientists at Bremen University in Germany are controversial, as many experts refuse to believe that behaviour, rather than chemicals, can be addictive.

I beg to differ:p

This has nothing to do with gardening, that's just some pro-gay shit. It's all about excersise, and we know that from before, so these Vienna folks hasn't discovered shit!

Well, it ain't masculine, if you ain't got no girl to do it for ya, I'm okay with a man doing it, but it's truly a womans work, unless it's cutting down some trees.

Something I forgot
The "gardening"-discovering is just there for trying to make it okay for men to be feminine.

I agree disagree.. It's not some pro-gay stuff, men can cultivate the land too and still love the feel of a woman.. I don't see the connection between getting dirt under the fingernails from gardening and sexual orientation.. unless you scream and cry because you broke a nail, then I'd suspect something.. Even the women I know aren't that dainty..

Oops, I made myself misunderstood. What I meant was that the "discovery" about gardening was pro-gay, I don't mind planting a tree or watch something I've cared for grow, but gardening is still a little feminine.

Gardening is not feminine or gay...ever heard of blut und boden? ;) I admire germanics for their close relationship with the earth and I've seen it is common for men to engage in gardening.

Gardening is not restricted to pansies (pun intended!), nor does 'masculine' type of gardening include tree planting. 'Real men' can grow herbs, plant cacti, prune bushes and even care for bulbs and flowers without becoming gay. ;) :p

Thanks for reminding me about how the real germanic men was like. I will from hertho change my opinion about gardening, no, I still doesn't mean it's maskulin, but it's not gay/feminine either:) Thanks Blax:)

I don't think gardening is something only feminine at all. Its not unmanly to enjoy nature. :) Its a good hobby, good for the soul, good for the eyes. :)

What exactly is the difference between "farming" and "gardening?" Have you ever wondered why it is called husbandry? ;)

I´m just only focused on Biological Gardening as possible as i can force it.
Men can also work to attract females with their muscles .. :p
But i must confirm that nothing is better than a flower picked up by a Woman.. :D
I do also enjoy fresh Air instead of polluted and to smell the Fragrance around of Budlleyas..

My favourite Vegetables are Paprika,Aubergines,Chillies and Potatoes..
Even as it´s hard to grow here in iceland.

Yes, sometimes when I am out in the garden doing menial tasks such as weeding, I must keep a vigilant eye out for "horny neighbor women"! :D
I often bring the wife out with me she is a great "horny neighbor woman" repellant.
Whatever you do do not companion plant flowers to close to the edge of the garden. This will also help prevent "horny neighbor women" from wondering into the garden. ;)

I also do not agree. How can gardening help improve our sex power? It can be without gardening also.

LOL. No way, man. Gardening is for both sexes. Consider it mini-farming, In my garden, I need a man for the heavy work.

My brother is all man and he is an avid gardener.
