Ottawa, hands down. I don't think it has any slums. The other two have.

Mexico City:

Ottawa. It doesn't have Mexicans or African-Americans. I think the one advantage Mexico City has is that it is a natural city. It has a function other then just being the capital, it would be the major Mexican city without being the capital. Ottawa and Washington exist primarily to be the capitals of their respective countries. New York, Philadelphia and Chicago are more natural capitals then Washington in America. In Canada, Toronto and Montreal.

Out of capitals I've been to, St. Paul, Minnesota and Olympia, Washington are the most attractive in America, Victoria, B.C in Canada.

Say wut now?

Foreign born residents in Ottawa made up 22.3 percent of the population in which many come from China, Lebanon, northeast Africa, Somalia, Iran, and The Balkans. Members of visible minority groups (non-white/European) constituted 20.2 percent, while those of Aboriginal origin numbered 1.5 percent of the total population. The largest visible minority groups consisted are: Black Canadians: 4.9%, Chinese Canadian: 3.8%, South Asian: 3.3%, and Arab: 3.0%, as well as smaller mixed race, and other East Asian groups.

Mind you black Canadians are not the same as black Americans.

Heh nice leading question there Libre. I love how you purposefully chose nondescript pics of Ottawa. Didn't even show the Byward Market or our Parliament buildings or our Rideau Canal with hordes of skaters during winter--the big three pics when one shows off Ottawa.

And DC, just one picture? What a joke!

Yet Mexico City has uhmm what the max of 10 pics does it?

Seriously man. Do me a favour and don't showcase my town anymore.

Washington D.C. is the best looker on the North American continent.
Look at her monumental lines and cryptic masonic symbols.

This is so now, but only since relatively recently. When I grew up the biggest thing to happen immigration-wise in Ottawa was the influx of "Vietnamese Boat People" (http://www.multiculturalcanada.ca/vietnamese) settling into our town. And that had been it for the longest time. Only during the past 15-20 years I'd say has the cultural landscape changed drastically, relatively-speaking, with a Somali presence more prominent, but statistically still insignificant. When I grew up here, there were no Somalis, barely any Pakistanis, and a handful of East Indians. Yes some Blacks, but Black Canadians, quite anglicised and part of the mainstream of society. As with most North American cities, we've always had our China Town. And Ottawa does boast a nice Corso Italiano. A mosque was pretty much unheard of in my town until recently. The closest we came to a "different" cultural landmark was the Ukrainian Catholic Church (Saint John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic National Shrine) with its gold rooftop!

I didn't know that. I thought black were in the Ottawa area for centuries.

But I'm from Halifax and blacks have been there longer than the rest of Canada. They don't look out of place for me. A Vietnamese person, however, would turn heads in Halifax, and there's no Chinatown there.

Perhaps so for Halifax, but not so for Ottawa. We started off a lumber town remember. Lots of French, English, Irish and Scots here. Pretty vanilla.

I'm not saying that Black people look out of place either, mind you. I'm just portraying what it was like to grow up in Ottawa during the 1960-1970s. (Yes I'm that old! :D)

Yeah I realize Ottawa started out as a lumber town, but I just assumed there would have been a small black population since its foundation.

But I guess that's the Halifax in me. Nova Scotia's black settlements predate Halifax itself.

Mind you black Canadians are not the same as black Americans.

"According to the 2007 American Community Survey conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau, the population distribution of Washington, D.C. is 55.6% Black or African American, 36.3% White, 3.1% Asian, and 0.2% American Indian. Individuals from other races made up 4.8% of the District's population while individuals from two or more races made up 1.6%. In addition, Hispanics of any race made up 8.3% of the District's population. There were also an estimated 74,000 foreign immigrants living in Washington, D.C. in 2007. Major sources of immigration include individuals from El Salvador, Vietnam, and Ethiopia, with some concentration of Salvadorans in the Mount Pleasant neighborhood."

Compared to D.C. Ottawa is very white and little black.

Mind you black Canadians are not the same as black Americans. So Jamaicans, Haitians, Somalis and Guyanans are better then African-Americans?

Black Loyalists were, but Maroons came from the Caribbean.

Black Loyalists were, but Maroons came from the Caribbean.Black Loyalists were the runaway slaves that arrived immiediately after the American Revolution. In the 1850s and 1860s 30,000 African-American Slaves arrived in Canada via the Underground Railroad (http://www.cbc.ca/history/EPCONTENTSE1EP8CH1PA3LE.html). There are now 800,000 black Canadians, it would seem likely that a good many of them are descended from the 30,000 slaves who fled to Canada 150-years ago.

I just said that.

But I mean black Canadians in general act differently than black Americans.

Let's just say if I grew up in the US, I might have had a problem with blacks, but since I grew up in Nova Scotia, I do not.

D.C. has a lot of really awesome monuments & museums.

The actual part of the city is very white, and has gotten more so in the past decade or so. Most blacks are confined to outlying irrelevant parts of the city (Anacostia) or pushed out to Prince George's County.

You can't beat the Smithsonian, Air & Space Museum, Washington Monument, Jefferson Monument & Lincoln Monument
