Is Islam a peaceful religion?

I have considered converting to Islam, but the only thing that bothers me about it is the fighting and hate. If I could be completely convinced that it is a peaceful religion, I would convert to it. What are your thoughts on it and how should I deal with my parents disdain for my decision if I decide to? I kind of like the idea of wearing a black tunic around, so that old men and n*ggers don't stare at me.

All supernatural belief does violence to the mind, and to the self; the behavioural outcome of the various faiths does differ, however, and if Islam is followed fundamentally it is certainly not a peaceful religion.

Liberal and Western-acclimated variations of Islam are less violent but no less alienating and queer to Western values.

I´ll just say this. If you don´t want to be an object to men any longer perhaps the Islamic cultural sphere is not the best possible choice for you.
