I say runored because it is so common for many Americans - especially in the South & Midwest - to claim Indian ancestry, usually Cherokee. In Canada I think it is popular to claim Cree. But usually without any documentation (including census records) to back it up.

It's remarkable how many people claim Amerindian ancestry in the U.S.A. just because it's "cool" in the multi-culti age to have something exotic in the family tree. I have met a few people with genuine ancestry but usually when you ask someone about the specifics they get quiet pretty quick. I think it's definitely overblown. You're right about another thing too, it always seems to be Cherokee.

I know a genuine Cherokee who is a bit put off by the subject. He thinks they're posers.

I agree with this, there are lot of Americans who claim NA ancestry but with Depp it's quite apparent. Now, how to classify him, erm, Silvid-Atlantid-Faelid perhaps?

He may have some minor Native admixture, but as Æmeric said, it's very common for families to be mistakenly convinced of this. For example, my mother was, until I actually started investigating our genealogy, convinced that she was part Injun. Naturally this turned out not to be the case, but for decades prior she spread this belief of hers as fact.

In any event, Depp appears somewhere between Med and Atlanto-Med. If there's something Native about his face, I can't pick out exactly what it is.

I should also mention that in Kentucky, Irish usually means Scots-Irish or what some call Ulster Irish. And chances are they may be ignoring some English ancestry.

Is Bucholz actually ethnic German or something else? I've seen plenty of dark haired Germans but Bucholz looks a little exotic for a German.
