Wet Monday started out, in Poland,as a pagan custom that symbolize cleansing, with the coming of Spring. When Christianity became the main religion, Wet Monday was adopted as a Christian ritual, related to cleansing souls of sins. The truth is people loved this tradition so much, they found a way to keep it, by associating it with religion.

On Wet Monday. boys and men armed with bottles and buckets of water, chase after girls and splash them from head to toe. According to the original custom, the most beautiful girl in a village would be the wettest, but nowadays, boys just splash any girl they see. At one point, the tradition got so out of hand that boys threw buckets of water, at girls, threw their car windows.

This sounds mint, why don't we have traditions like that here? We had water fights as a kid but we couldn't go around soaking most of the female population of the town. :D

I think it should just be a free for all, one big water fight for both genders.

I'll invent a quirky tradition for England - Paintball War - basically you get a paintball gun and the protection and then go and run riot through anywhere in the countryside conducting a guerrilla war.

Sounds like a lovely idea, but unfortunately England suffers from a bad dose of Niggeritus. It would soon descend into a melee of "youths" expressing themselves in an inappropriate manner ie: rape, violence, etc...

Looks like some guy and his victim. The tradition involves going around throwing water at girls. :D

The source is another forum for students in the UK (but be warned, its very leftist).

We had water fights every end of school year during late elementary school and all high school... That was fun, usually those days even classrooms were all in water... and streets around school too :D But it wasn't like this, we had same rules for both of genders, and in my opinion it was much better.

I remember when I was a wee little lad, I lived in Ustka a town right by the sea. Anyway people would do drive-bys with buckets of water, and they would throw people into the sea . As I recall, someone ended up dead when they were thrown into the sea.

He spend more time in albanian sub-forum than in his own sub-forum, or other threads together.

Just like albanians spend more time on the romanian forum than on their own ?

Anyway polish girls are very hard to shag, takes months of love and ramblings before they accept to do something.
This thing can not be said about Balkanic girls, especially if one man is romanian or hungarian, they can have all they want from the south.

We have this exact tradition in Hungary, we call it locsolkodás. But today often the water is replaced by perfume, so girls get to smell very exotic after this celebration :D

today we have Mikołajki

Mikołajki- secularised name of Saint Nicholas' day is celebrated on December 6 in Poland, celebrated in honor of St. Nicholas the Bishop of Myra.

The presence of Santa Claus announces the coming of Christmas.

On this day Santa Claus (actually a person dressed as him) brings gifts to children. These are usually small gifts, candy or small toys.

In Bulgaria every hot summer day in the park could turn into Wet Monday.

So, we win.
