Discus different hair colors, post yours, how you think it's unique, and discuss why it is the way it is.
Mine, it's weird, sometimes it looks dark brown, other times reddish with golden tones, don't know what causes the change effect:
This is what my hair looks like in most cases:

This is when it's uber-dark:

I used to have a pic where my hair looked real reddish, but when I started trolling SF and got banned my pic got lost with SF.
I guess in this one my eyebrows look reddish:

I hate my dial up. I've got so many things that I want to post, and can't because of a 9.6 kbps connection. :(
My hair started off blonde, and has darkened to a golden brown, with golden streaks, and reddish tinges. I've always been asked if I've dyed my hair, as a lot of people think it's a really pretty shade. I've never dyed my hair in my life. :D

When I was small it was white blonde. Over the years it became ashy medium blonde. Now it has lovely silver streaks. LOL. Of course, you can't tell that because I get it highlighted on a regular basis. :D
I would love to go mostly silver just because I am about 60% grey now, but I can't find a hairstylist who will do it for me. I suppose I'll just have to age, but damnit, I want the silver now while I still look somewhat presentable:p

Mine was white as a child. It began to darken to an ashen blond and actually turned reddish as a teen. Now it is overall brownish to dark ash-blonde with reddish tints, depending on the season. Upon closer inspection, my hair is a conglomerate of individual hairs that are representative of every period. Same with my facial hair (higher concentration of red, though). I remember one of my ex-girlfriends was sort of perplexed that she could never decide satisfactorily upon what my actual color was. BTW, does anyone know why an individual's hair color would do this over time? I've sort of always wondered, but never took the time to find out. My mother's family all have varying shades of blonde, except for her mother, who was a redhead. My father's family also have a preponderance of blondes, with the occasional brunette showing up (actually like my father-he had the darkest hair in the family).

^ Shave your head and let it grow :p Seriously -practically, there's no other way.
Unless you want to destroy your hair with bleach and still the resulting color will be unnatural.
Otherwise, wait for the black to wash off as much as possible, then start cutting little by little until your natural starts growing again. But it will take months and in the meanwhile you'll look like a fool, with half your hair black and half of it dark blond :P

Look. I had been doing my hair jet black and I underwent the same frustration as you when I decided to "let it wash it out".
The problem with "Black no.1" is that it never completely washes out. Same with the bright red colors. They're too strong and tend to "stain" the hair permanently.
It will wash out to a point and it will start appearing greenish (if you know what I mean :D).
At that point maybe it would be a good idea to go to the hair dresser and tell them to use a very light bleach (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/L'oreal-Efassor-Hair-Colour,-Color-Remover,-Dye_W0QQitemZ220371820220QQcmdZViewItemQQimsxZ2009 0304?IMSfp=TL090304124003r3753) that will wash away the black color a bit more but not completely, and also without destroying your hair like regular peroxide.
At that point it might be a good idea to dye your hair a dark blond that is close to your natural, so that the color is balanced and looks natural because the Efassor will leave it looking somewhat chemically treated.
Then, let your roots grow and hopefully they will blend with the dark blond and eventually the dyed hair will grow off as you cut it and your natural healthy hair shall remain. And don't dye it again! :p

There's the "long stressful but keeping your lenght" way and the "long shave-the-shit-off loosing your length" way... Hmm... I'll take nr. 1, so I don't have to let it grow back out again:D

People have come wandering into the salons I've worked at with this question all the time. The short answer is: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
:D
When you colour your hair black, it is very, very difficult to get it back to something resembling your own colour, immediately. It is the same for those who colour their hair red. What you *could* do is ask for a head full of highlights, and get them toned in a medium to dark blonde colour. As they grow out, you can have your hair filled with a more natural shade.
If you do go to a salon, be honest and tell them what you have put on your hair. Some drugstore hair dyes contain metallic salts for colour and when the bleach powder is applied, there is a chemical reaction that occurs.....and the end result is much smoking and sizzling of your precious tresses and a hairstylist who now has ten years taken off her life. :thumb001:
There are tests the stylists can do with a little snip of your hair to see what will happen. You don't want to decolourize too quickly or you'll have hair like straw that will begin to resist the chemicals because it is so damaged. Do it slowly. That is why I suggest foils. This is how I'm getting rid of all the red that was in my hair for ages. Its taken about three appointments over six months, but my hair still looks good and it's still strong. If you are concerned about cost (taking out black and replacing it with anything can be pricey) then go to a school and ask for a senior student. I go to the hairstyling school in my son's high school and I pay about $25 each time for about $180 worth of services.
As for conditioning, get something like K-Pak by Joico (http://www.joico.com/product/detail.php?CatID=17&pID=131). It's my favourite reconstructing treatment.
My hair is a nice golden blonde. ^^

I seem to be brown/ dark blonde. Sometimes I seems to have a reddish glow when I stand or sit with a lamp behind me (or so I am told). I used to be black haired as a baby and later on reddish.
Light brown with a lot of gold reflection to it. When I cut my hair it looks just regular light brown. It could also be a variation of dark ash blond.

I find something similar with mine. I think it's down to the natural oils. When I've just washed my hair thoroughly it's slightly lighter in shade but then if I don't wash it for a couple of days it seems to get darker due to the oils.
Mine was light brown until about the age of 14 then began getting gradually darker. It's now quite a dull greyish dark brown.

Light brown with reddish and blond highlights. When it's short, it looks more blondish, but it gets more reddish brown as it grows out.Nothing out of the ordinary way, really.:) When I was really young, I was a redhead, became a blond for the 6th,7th and 8th grades in school, then the blond and red genes mingled during puberty and now I've got my current hair color.:D

I've been trying to log changes in my hair tone throughout the seasons, mine seems to alternate pretty frequently.
In the winter months my hair is a dark brown with a very very slight purplish/reddish tone.
In the spring months my hair is a reddish brown, predominately brown with a slight reddish undertone, very subtle.
In summer it changes to a more golden reddish brown, the reddish color and the golden undertones take predominance in good light, in dimmer light it looks straight up rufous.
Then it starts to dim back down in fall.
I'm wondering the if it has something to do with the extremely vibrant summers, maybe lightens the hair up (basically sun bleaching), then the very dim and cold winters, thus causing it to dim during those seasons due to the lack of intense sunlight.

In Summer there is much sun.......and it's easier you shot pic of yourself with your hair better enlightened. In winter the opposite.

Medium-to-dark-brown, I suppose. It looks lighter in the sun, as on the picture. Since I haven't been sunbathing in years, I suspect it might turn significantly lighter in a sunnier climate, but who knows. The facial hair seems to vary between dark brown, ash blonde, and red. As many other Europeans, I was a veritable Baltid of a child:

It can't get darker than raven black. I even have a blueish hue under natural Spanish sunlight
Indeed. The second picture, including the nature and the hairdo, have a certain Chechen flair. The first one looks typically Iberian, however.

I was Platinum blonde when i was a toddler, then it turned medium brown.
I still have all of my hair with no signs of thinning, but i am now 30-40% grey.

Indeed, an old lady friend of my mother once said i was blonde too. Perhaps she was influenced by eye color as well to call me that?

Mine has darkened in the last decade. It used to be more of a light auburn brown with golden highlights, but now it's more of a chestnut. Meh. It's still healthy looking at least, but when I was younger, the color was really unique. I used to have people ask me if I dyed my hair, it looked so interesting. My hair when I was 19 was one of my husband's favorite features about me.
I had the hairdresser who cut my hair last gushing over how pretty and healthy my hair looked, especially since it is so trendy to dye hair nowadays, it's now uncommon to see undyed hair, and to see it looking so pretty and healthy. When asked what products I used, I proudly stated "My own herbal shampoos and hair pomades." :D
(Yeah, I know, I'm a little vain about my hair. It's one of my favorite things about myself.)

Mine i would say is medium-dark brown, although it's usually lighter in natural light and darker in artificial light/poorly lit areas. Outside it can be anything from medium-dark brown to light brown, and have reddish shades too. So yeah definitely some form of medium brown, because it changes so much.
Some examples:
