'North Sea' is a bit boring and PC, it's historically been called a number of names including 'Frisian Sea' and Germanic Ocean' - those are two of my favourites.
Scotland has a North Sea coast too, but the majority of nations next to it are Germanic so screw 'em.

Any ideas on what we should call it? :thumbs up

Hmm let's call the part between Britain, Belgium. France and the Netherlands "the Germanic Straits". We could always start using the name North Sea for the Northern part of the North Sea between Denmark, Scotland, Faroe Islands, Iceland and Norway (dumping the term Norwegian Sea).

We could then also start referring to the Irish Sea as "the Celtic Straits" or "the Irish Straits".

I'm with Pallantides. Call the whole shebang "Norwegian Sea", and while we're at it take back North America, Newfoundland, the Shetlands, the Orkneys, the Hebrides, Isle of Man, Dublin, Greenland, Iceland and the Faeroese islands. :D

I'd go with "Germanic Sea" myself and keep Irish Sea as it is. The "Celtic Straights" would cause confusion with the Celtic Sea which is between Wales, Cornwall and Ireland.
The Bristol Channel should use the older name of "Severn Sea" though since the Severn is the major river along it.

Germanic sea sounds nice. Anglian sea is too Anglocentric.

Germanic Sea, it gives it more of a ethnic definition respect to the apolitical "North Sea".

Then let's call it "Deutsches Meer" :)

I have no idea, maybe:

Crystal Sea, where "crystal" stays for ancient Greek "krystallos" (ice), therefore, "sea of the ices".

Spegel Sea/Spekul Sea, so "sea of the mirrows", where "mirrows" refer to the fjords and to the lakes of that area (spegel is in Swedish and spekul in Latin).

Both sound very fantasy-style.

Nah. Who wants to say that the Vikings crossed the crystal sea? Besides, it's hardly worthy of the name, it's usually either grey or dark blue depending on the weather.
The English Channel has some waters warranting the name better, there's some nice areas of azure coloured water around some areas of the chalk.

Let's welcome the newcomers and name it the Somalian Sea. Soon, it's shores can be raided by them!:D

Would be even more fun if they sailed in longboats and carried battle axes :D
