I went to the dermatologist the other day to have him check a shoulder lesion out, and he remarked to me that my skin has very few moles on it, overall. In fact, I can only think of one mole on my entire body, along with a few cherry angiomas....

It got me to start wondering which European people have the most or the fewest moles on their skins? Does anyone here know?

Thanks!

Moles aren't linked with ethnicity or racial type, however people with more sensitive skins have more moles as I've noticed. This could be also a sign of tendency towards the later development of skin cancer.

This could be also a sign of tendency towards the later development of skin cancer. This is true. However, I know people who are not the sorts to sit out in the sun at all, several of which are quite young, and they have quite a number of moles.... that's sort of why it got me to wondering if there is a genetic link in certain groups of Europeans.

I find fair skin that doesn't tan usually gets lots of freckles if sun burned but not moles. Fair skin that tans I have found to get more moles for some reason.

I can get freckles. However, the sun just burns my skin more than anything....so sounds like I fit your scenario:)

My man, for example, is not very fair complexed (has the typical moderate brunette tan), but he's full with moles and burns very easily. Interesting is that his moles keep multiplying with time. First they are red, then become darker.
I have some moles, but not many.

I have dark hair and light skin but no moles. I get more freckles when in the sun and usually burn.

It might be due to me being TT at Rs12203592 in my dna.

Rs12203592 has the greatest allele frequency in the Irish. Africans and Asians are 100% C, while Europeans have the highest level of T frequency, Irish appearantly the most.

The T allele confers pale skin, dark hair, and freckling and oddly, some protection from Melanoma:

My Irish ... (or to the mentally retarded online: Celtic) partner has many moles, as do I; and so do my children. In my experience, the greater rate of 'moles' has been those of British Isles descent, but then I am biased.

From what I understand it's the Celtic/Irish.

I donno but the hungarians have generally moles. However the quantitiy and location of moles are very different among hungarian individuals. I cannot see connection with pale skin. Furthermore the freckles and the hardly tanned pale skin are realtives of course. I am look like a freckled red crab in every may. :D

I have a sizeable amount of moles even in my mouth and nose region but most especially on my back, arms, and even legs but none of them are that large.

Moles are fairly common among Northern Europeans.

Only moles I have are on areas that have received a lot of sun exposure.

I don't think it's related to ethnicity or European subgroup,my father has a lot,I have many,my mother has none. We all have pale skin(and blue eyes) btw.
