European Mansions vs American Mansions

I personally think recently built European mansions/villas look fairly kitsch compared to most American mansions in my state.

There is this little voice in me that when people build big estates society is in decline as kitsch and decadence are symbols of decline. During the 18th century there was also a lot of kitsch and the 18th century was a time of societal decline too.
