I'm trying something new -- limited guest viewing. Here is how it works:

After a guest has viewed 5 threads, they will see a message on top of each thread, encouraging them to register.

After a guest has viewed 10 threads, they will be blocked from viewing further threads without registering.

This is to encourage new registrations. Whether it is beneficial remains to be seen. Trial period for this mod ... let me know what you guys think of this.

Oh ... sorry Todesengel. :thumbs up :D

By the way ... search engine spiders are not affected by this at all.

Personally, I don't like the fact most threads are open for public. Maybe those sections containing any personal information, such as Lounge and Off Topic should be open only for registered users?

The members' picture thread, as well as personal classifications, are in restricted areas. If people want to post more sensitive stuff, it should not be in the Lounge -- which is supposed to be a more low-brow area for chit-chat.

We also have a restricted area for funding members.

It's a good thing and I endorse it. Well I'm not in favor of completly blocking the site to guest like some others radical website, because it would make all the ding-dong on the internet register and then the member list would be a complete circus.

Thing is, we sometimes post pictures of us and not every guest is supposed to watch it.

Guests will still be able to see everything you post in public forums though. The whole idea behind this mod is not privacy, but to encourage registration and therefore involvement.

I like it, the blocking part, maybe not, but after 10 threads one should understand what the forum's all about and therefore, no they should register if they want to know more:D You could maybe in some way, make a "guest" answering method, like guest could somehow participate on threads, but of course with a mod approval only to prevent "enlargement" ads:p

Yeah, how's that limited guest viewing coming along?

Good idea Loki, there seems to be a great deal of viewers to the forum whenever i check who is online, i agree, this should encourage people to register.:)

Everything about this form is Exceptional. Just we don't have enough members. If we had 700 Regular Posters this Place would be on Fire!

The biggest forum I know only has 100 Active Regulars. And they have 300 People Logged and 3000 Guests Logged in at any one time.

We need 7000 People Logged and 70,000 Guests to be the Biggest Forum of All Time. That would Place the Apricity in the Guinness Book of World Records and Make History.

The Problem is your Average Joe is too busy trying to Put Food on the Table and has no Time for Online Forums.

Giant forums have a problem of "too many cooks spoiling the broth." Giant forums require a large staff, and in my experience the more staff there are the more conflicts arise between them and the less stable the character of the forum is. Giant forums also lack a certain friendly atmosphere, just as you find with giant megastores vs mom-and-pop shoppes. The point of the forum is discussions related in some way to Cultural & Ethnic European Preservation (and sometimes way, way, off into other tangents :D), not a popularity contest. Look at a big board like Stormfront: a few reasoned voices and a whole lot of static. Big boards also attract trolls (the unfunny kind) and spammers, the bigger the audience for them the better they feel. Rapid growth into a megaforum is undesirable.

Its not a bad idea, the alternative would be active recruiting from SF. There is quite a number of good posters who probably never heard of this site.

We don't want SF members here. :wink What goes on Stormfront is not what we seek on the Apricity.

Sure some SF members could fit in here -- say 1 in 10. Advertise on SF, you get one nice guy and 9 morons. It just isn't worth the effort. Quality over quantity.

Does such a thing exist? Hmmm....

Yeah, I'm wondering when this "conversion to normalcy" will happen to me...
