What's your favorite dances?

I can't really decide...it's either Irish River Dance, or Kavkaz Shalaxo.

Shalaxo(obviously kind of improvised)

I think I will actually have to pick Shalaxo, as Riverdance, however impressive it looks, strike me as a bit gay too :D

What about the Kavkaz Lezginka? By far the best dance in my opinion, but then again I'm biased. You can be the judge.

Check the link in my signature.

Oh, it's cool too, for sure. I find most dances from Kavkaz quite awesome.
But maybe I've become biased too because all the admixture-calculators put me as 5-10% lezgin or ingush :p

Ingush, seriously? Wow, how is that even possible if you're from Norway?

The Ingush are my ethnic brothers by the way. I'm Chechen and we both fall under the category of Waynakh (Vainakh).

Both the Ingush and Lezgins dance the Lezginka. The Shalaxo is a more Armenian, Azeri and Georgian thing.

No idea. My dad showed no such admixture readings, so either I inherited a large ammount of caucasian/west-asian DNA from both, or my mom got some admixture from there, for some reason.

The admixture calculators give me almost all the caucasus-ethnicities.
Usually between 5-10%. Balkars, Chechen, Adyghe, Ingush, Lezgin. It even suggested Armenian or Georgian, but at a much lower % and error-rate further down the list.

I'm not sure if it's possible to get that mixture into Norway that many generations ago, or if I just have a bit more west-asian DNA than average...waiting for my moms result to find out :D

I noticed that the caucasus dances look the same from Georgia to Ossetia to Chechnya to Armenia.

Some of the same movements or way do dance maybe...but atleast I got the impression there is a difference in speed etc.
Maybe I'm wrong, I have just seen a few youtube-videos, but I got the impression the Chechen and north-caucasian dances are more fast paced and warrior-like, and the georgian and armenian / south caucasus dances are less formal, a bit more relaxed(or atleast as relaxed as a caucasus dance can be lol)

I think some of the south caucasus dances look more middle eastern meaning they move with their hips and do arm movements. Is that what you meant by more relaxed? Northern looks more formal and like a royalty dance.

They have lived together for thousands of years like brothers before the Russians came and created territories for them and started giving territories from one nation to another whenever Russia wanted to. For example today the Georgians and Ossetians are constantly fighting because Russians would give Ossetian land with people on it to the Georgians and the Ossetians on that land would fight against the Georgians for that land. They did this to all of the nations of Caucasus to have them fight each other.

Armenians don't really have much in common with rest of Caucasus with regard to dances. They don't have Lezginka or other related Caucasus dances, to say the least.

Actually they have a dance called the Artsvapar which is similar to the Lezginka. I can still see the differences, but it takes a trained eye.

Here's a dance with a story and lots of sword fighting. Actually almost all the choreographed Lezginka dances have a meaning behind them, it's not just random.

Quite funny. Good effort though, I guess they taught themselves to dance?

And I really hate that song! It is Chechen and it is so annoying and cheesy.

What about Artsvapar? It's the Armenian version of Lezginka right?

I think those girls are from some amateur dance ensemble. Armenians like to dance. :) There are even free lessons in Yerevan where Armenians and foreign tourists can learn to dance.

As for Artsvapar I am not sure that it's a version of Lezginka but it's rather similar.

But to tell the truth I like more soft melodic Armenian dances like this one:

Other dances I like are Danzón and regional mexican dances like la Bamba or just any type of latin american regional dance. Basically, Carribean and Latin American dances.
