The Arabian tribes that moved into the region of Jordan since ancient times have been the Midianites, Kedarites, and the most famous of them all the Nabateans. Today their legacy is still remembered in Jordan and many Jordanians claim direct descent from these people.

alberta, the midianites were southern canaanite tribe.probably adomite amonite or moavite, in egyptian sources he call "shasu' probably edomite tribe....

The Shasu were a people who lived in the deserts of southern Canaan, now Jordan and northern Saudi Arabia, around the same time as the Israelites emerged.

Egyptian texts say one of the places where the Shasu lived is called "Y.H.W.," probably pronounced Yahu, likely the name of their patron god.

In the Bible, the place where the Shasu lived is referred to as Midian

The Edomites may have been connected with the Shasu and Shutu, nomadic raiders mentioned in Egyptian sources. Indeed, a letter from an Egyptian scribe at a border fortress in the Wadi Tumilat during the reign of Merneptah reports movement of nomadic "shasu-tribes of Edom" to watering holes in Egyptian territory
