Greece and FYROM relations are improving
Bilateral relations with Greece have improved in the past year, said Nikola Poposki, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, according to a Macedonian Information Agency report.
Poposki spoke to Austrian newspaper Die Presse, saying that relations have improved after introducing certain confidence building measures with Greece. As a result, he said, there hasn’t been more intense cooperation with Greece since FYROM became an independent country.
Regarding Greece’s blockade to FYROM’s accession to the European Union, Poposki said that the atmosphere has changed and that is a good prerequisite for something to happen in this direction.
Poposki said that after Greece sought postponement of the start of accession negotiations, there was the impression in the European Council that negotiations would be postponed briefly and that the name dispute will be resolved as soon as possible, according to the MIA report.
