As for the Swedes, they seem individualistic, but how shall a foreigner note the collectivistic pressure among Swedes, if that is expressed just with "sublime signals"? But it shows in the politics of the past 100 years, where Sweden perfomed a kind of socialism light. Knowledgeable Swedes state that the "social unfreedom" shall have been an important additional trigger for emigration to America.

Danes kinda have this too, heavily Swedish leaning, but slightly more chauvinistic, notoriously sarcastic. Neither Denmark or Sweden brooks a sufferer of tall poppy syndrome. It made itself a part of my upbringing, so I kinda feel bad acknowledging some truth with an anecdotal exposé. The Dutch are great they're a "say what you mean , mean what you say" kinda folk

Interesting, as this topic with such an extent is somewhat new to me. Still learning here. I've no real imagination regarding Danes und Norwegians in this context. To my perception the few Danes (school children as well as adults) I knew from Sweden were also somewhat unadapted and "impossible", not as much as Germans, but in that direction. It's likely not by chance that Paludan happens to be a Dane and Christiania happens to be located in Denmark. Norwegians did not occur in my environment.

There's a notorious sibling rivalry between the two. So, can't say I'm surprised that they got under the skin of a few Swedes. Where'd you go to school? Around Skåne? Norwegians hardly find reason to turn up in either country, but them and I have always gotten on great, there's some banter and some back and forth, don't know anyone that finds them irritating. Granted, Swedes and Danes happen upon each other more. Love them both, but Norwegians seem to be the better liked sibling.

Well, this is nothing new, to be frank, although I have never been in a situation where someone does what you just mentioned. At first you always try to understand why people do what they do.

It can actually happen to Swedes too, you can even see it daily, usually people decide to be around people of similar mindset etc., they realize that's the only solution (even in Sweden).

Yes, they are very collectivist but also have traits that are purely individualistic without thought for how it affects others, such as parents getting divorced, with kids, and then going and having a new relationships. And the consequences of step parents can be very severe. Many of them also come off as hedonistic, which is seen differently by different people.

But these things are fully in force as for Swedes. So true. Sweden isn't a dictatorship, obviously, but it has some influences from communism left, IMO. There might be no law saying this or that, but there are a lot of people who have positions that might affect your outcomes. They think it's given that someone in a position of authority is going to abuse it. That is just a whole other world for me, since authority comes with its responsibilities, IMO.

Well my mistake. Regardless of this topic, if the canteen food is good(unlike what I have seen here), it is a great thing that students get free food. Personally I still wouldn’t eat there, but I think healthy basic food is a fundamental right.

I never met a swede. Wait once I did that was at university he was my room companion in the dormitory but only one night and one day he wanted a own room so maybe he did not like me or it was he wanted a single room we spoke only two words

I think taste depends on your preferences. I find that food industrial in its taste and so I don't like it.

As for the latter, yeah, but Norwegians do definitely have some sensitivities towards Swedes. But this is a one-sided condition. Whether there is such a thing towards Danes by Norwegians, I don't know.

I was in school in Västergötland. Scanians are actually seen like Danes are seen, although not as Danes (I know that Scania historically is even core Denmark). And Scanians in turn do have a high self esteem as Scanians. To my perception "real" Sweden starts North of Scania, both mentally and topographically.
