'British Isles' is the correct term for the archipelago and the Irish can go cry about it all they like, it's not going to change. Thus they are 'British Islanders' along with the inhabitants of the UK. Whether you confine the term 'British' solely to inhabitants of the UK is up to you.
Yes, its 2 generations ago at its most recent though and the remaining 3/4 of my ancestry is English so I've never really connected with it. There's both Protestants and Catholics in there from Cork, County Armagh and Wexford. Those from Cork and Armagh bore Scottish surnames and from Wexford had English and Irish. I don't claim Scottish ancestry because I only know that the surnames are Scottish, not how they got to Ireland. Besides, Scottish ancestry via Ireland is like saying German ancestry via the Anglo-Saxons - daft (Der Spiegel and DM put it that way though... :picard1: ).
