I don't really know much Spanish.
I find French fairly simple to pick up since both French and Spanish are Latin derived and I learned Spanish at home. I do remember the first time I really had a conversation in Spanish with someone from outside of my community as a child and there was often I would use a word they were not familiar with and it made me realize just how much slang I use in my Spanish dialect.
I don't speak Spanish as a native language, but I was surrounded by it by way of family who did and surroundings as a child (spending time in Guatemala and Mexico in my childhood). I do speak it fluently though, at least enough to where I'm comfortable using it with other people and getting myself understood.
It's a very easy language. Extremely simple phonology and grammar, a phonetic spelling, and clear, pure sounds. This is really the langauge that should be a global lingua franca, as opposed to a beast like English.
