Anyways the best tall players were still shorter than 1.90, even good goalkeepers like Casillas( 1.82) and Oliver Kahn( 1.88) were still shorter than 1.90.

Shorter players have the said advantage of low center of gravity and also the advantage of having it easier to change the direction of movement, to do dribbling. I think, small passing too. So, theoretically on average they fit middle field positions better.

Taller players have advantage in goalkeeper and defender positions because the ability to reach the ball is very important there.

The preferable height of forwards is defined by the style of the particular team.

That said, individual abilities of players are much more important then their heights. I'm a former amateur football player and I'm 182-183 cm.
