Punjabi Hip Hop, seems to be catching on among western desis. The producer is a punjabi canadian who got his start in the music industry producing beats for French Montana mixtapes.

Recentish song from a bollywood movie, the singer is Pakistani. It samples a classic qawaali performance from the singers late uncle Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan who is among the most revered musical figures in south asia. I think this is one of the most well produced indian songs to come out this year, much better than westernized beep boop stuff.

Mid 90s to Early 00s was my favorite era of commercial indian music. Perfect mix of traditional influences and modern compositions and beautiful song writing. A R Rahman is perhaps the greatest living composer.

My favorite new song. If Justin Bieber or someone made a remix over this instrumental it would be a huge hit.

You give, perhaps unintentionally, the impression that Indian music is almost entirely vocal. Hindustani music has a long
and highly respected tradition of instrumental music. I have over 70 LP's and about 20 CD's of Indian instrumental music in my record collection, which I prefer to Indian vocal music, though that is beautiful also.
I do not claim to appreciate Indian instrumental music in the same way that the Indians do, however. At live performances, i have found most of the audience applauding passages which made no special impression on me and myself applauding alone passages which seem to have been "ho-hum" to them. But, in our own ways, we both greatly enjoyed the music .
