They look to represent a diverse stock a lot of their looks look to be the result of natural variation causing some exotic types to crop up it happens in areas where there is an extremely large of amount of intermixing over a period of time between very diverse population groups and isolation can exaggerate this aspect.

I think Berbers descend from the first Human waves of population coming from the Near-East and thus still have the physical appearance of that population which were probably among the first to settle the west Mediterranea.
I think Berbers are an interesting group.
