For an enlightened, rational European there shouldn't be any question which is superior, but it should also be admitted that if we dress down all the religious and mystical teachings in Eastern philosophy, there are plenty of greatly thought-provoking ideas regarding individual progress and awakening. I always cherished the inheritance of 'Eastern wisdom' among Hungarians.

Western by far.
Mostly Western philosophy, with elements of Eastern philosophiez mixed in.
Western Philosophy brought us the worst wars ever known to man, as well as slavery...
In fact I'm pretty sure Western Philosophy has been behind ALL bad things to ever happen.
It is interesting that only in Greek the word "Man" is so meaningful.
Anthropos is an abbreviation phrase that describe our human nature. Man in Greek means thinking creature, inquiring creature. Other animals, Socrates notes, do not inquiry into, calculate, or look up of any of the things they see, but "the human being alone among the beasts has correctly been named anthropos, for he looks up at which he has seen: anathron ha opope".
Man is unlike the animals in that he studies, anathrei, and sees, opope (''closely observing what he has seen'.), hence anathron-ha-opope, which gives anthropos, man.
