It is interesting however that Liverpools accent seems to have become stronger and you would probably find very few people in Newcastle or Hull who don't have a local accent.
Interesting, the way they pronounce Sunday, "sundee" is somewhat similar to how some people in areas just north of London pronounce it in Bucks, Middlesex etc.
I would say once you get west of Didcot and Basingstoke it is mainly west country in sound, Exeter locals still sound different to London most of the time, i would say once you get more than 50 miles...
London i would say has a totally different accent to the home counties which either sound more like Norfolk, slightly midlandish or quite a typical west country burr which can still be heard in parts...
Stoke accent is fascinating, also listen to this guy from the Black country west of Birmingham, could not be mistaken for someone from Worcester Birmingham or Stafford

Really? i think local accents are very much alive among people in more manual work i.e builders, chefs, train drivers, taxi drivers. It's just that you don't hear those accents as much among people...
