They aren't that similar. In Slovaks there is a greater Baltic/EastNordid shift whan in Hungarians:

There was very little admixture with Germans. Banat and Oltenia are the darkest, followed by Muntenia... The lightest are people in Crisana region near Hungary and even more so northern/eastern...

They can pass in Russia, even Belarus (a few in another post had that look), but that doesn't change the oddity. I think they look like NW Caucasians (Circassians, Abkhaz)...
