    I am unsure about which are closest but I can say which I think are furthest away:

    Epirotes, Ionian islanders, Macedonians, Thracians, Thessalians.

    Interesting since Ionian Islanders are probably the closest culturally. I am really unsure what to think of them...

    Yes, that is true. Genetically of all Greeks they score one of the lowest amounts of "Italian" on 23andme, which means they have one of the lowest affinities to the partially Sicilian/Calabrese based reference population.

    But Rhodes seems to have Italian influence. Don't they use the Italian terms for grandmother and grandmother, too rather than the Greek?

    Aegean islanders score high "Italian" and low, but consistent Balkan.
