Authentic Greek music, i.e. not the Gypsy pop music that is common in the Balkans nowadays that also has Ottoman influences, does not sound anything like Middle Eastern music. It actually sounds remarkably similar to Sicilian music and to southern Italian music.

That's real Greek music.. not modern day pop music that clearly emulates Turkish style, found in all the Balkans, that people confuse for Greek music.

I went to a Greek festival this summer. You could clearly tell the difference between the more modern, Turkish inspired music and the music that sounded right out of some rural village.

And it is funny seeing other Balkan users say this lie about Greek music/culture considering that if you turned it around on them and showed them modern "Serbian" and "Bulgarian" music that sounds just like it, they'd deny that it is authentic and go on about Ottomans and Gypsies.
