The final radiotelegraph transmissions from the Titanic signalling the ship was in severe distress. This recording is in all likelihood a simulation, but its exact origin is not known. It is notable for the authentic-sounding rotary spark gap tone and also for the code speed-- rather quick for a hand key! A video of the keying waveform is provided for further analysis.

D-Day - 6th, June, 1944


Along with it's allies, Britain invaded the beaches of Normandy on D-day, 6th of June, 1944, with Britain landing on the Gold, Juno and Sword sectors. Soldiers immediately ran into heavy fire from German enemies, and had to evade obstacles on the beaches such as mines, barbed-wire and wooden steaks. It remains the largest seaborne invasion in history, and was a pivotal mission in the conquering of Nazi Germany.

RMS Lusitania - 1915



RMS Lusitania was a British ocean liner and she was briefly the world's largest passenger ship. The ship was carrying British and American passengers on a trip to the US when she was suddenly struck and sunk on 7 May 1915 by a German U-boat 11 mi (18 km) off the southern coast of Ireland.

She sunk to the seabed in 18 minutes, with the deaths of 1,198 passengers and crew.

The sinking caused a storm of protest in the United States because 128 American citizens were among the dead.

The sinking of the Lusitania presaged the United States declaration of war on Germany in 1917.

White Star Line HMHS Britannic (a sister ship of White Star Line Titanic) - 1915



HMHS Britannic was the third and final vessel of the White Star Line's Olympic class of steamships and the second to bear the name "Britannic." She was the fleet mate of both the RMS Olympic and the RMS Titanic and was intended to enter service as a transatlantic passenger liner.

Britannic was launched just before the start of the First World War. She was designed to be the safest and most luxurious of the three ships, drawing lessons from the sinking of the Titanic. She was laid up at her builders, Harland and Wolff, in Belfast for many months before being put to use as a hospital ship in 1915.

In 1915 and 1916 she served between the United Kingdom and the Dardanelles.

On the morning of 21 November 1916 she was shaken by an explosion caused by a naval mine near the Greek island of Kea and foundered 55 minutes later, killing 30 people.

There were 1,065 people on board; the 1,035 survivors were rescued from the water and lifeboats. Britannic was the largest ship lost in the First World War. The loss of the ship was compensated by the award of SS Bismarck to the White Star Line as part of post-war reparations; she became the RMS Majestic.

The wreck was located and explored by Jacques-Yves Cousteau in 1975. The vessel is the largest passenger ship on the sea floor, followed by Titanic.

RMS Carpathia


RMS Carpathia was a British Cunard Line transatlantic passenger steamship built by Swan Hunter & Wigham Richardson in their shipyard in Newcastle upon Tyne, England.

In April 1912, she became famous for rescuing the survivors of rival White Star Line's RMS Titanic after the latter struck an iceberg and sank with a loss of 1,517 lives in the North Atlantic Ocean.

Carpathia braved dangerous ice fields and diverted all steam power to her engines in her rescue mission.

She arrived only two hours after Titanic had sunk and rescued 705 survivors from the ship's lifeboats.

Carpathia herself was sunk on 17 July 1918 after being torpedoed by the German submarine SM U-55 off the southern Irish coast with a loss of five crew members.

The Dunblane Massacre - 13th, March, 1996


The Dunblane massacre was the largest firearms shootings in the history of the UK.

It was the first - and last time - a school shooting happened in the UK.

"Proud" paedophile, Thomas Hamilton, carried out this thought-out attack at Dunblane Primary School in Scotland.

After entering the school gymnasium, he would open fire on pupils and staff, killing sixteen 5/6 year-olds, and one teacher.

Just one pupil from her class survived.

All of the bodies were said to have been hit between 4-8 times during the shooting. After the attack, Hamilton turned the gun on himself.

The world shock, national outrage, and public outcry of this attack saw severely strict laws be put in places for the private ownership of handguns.

Parents and teachers and the UK public formed 'The Snowdrop Campaign' and they campaigned for a ban on handguns. The UK government eventually listened to the British public and banned handguns.

Since then, there's been no further school shootings in the U.K. (Dunblane was the only ever U.K. school shooting.)

A child who was inside the school at the time of the shootings was Andy Murray. He survived, and he's now a very famous and celebrated tennis star and UK tennis champion.
