7/7 London Terrorist Attacks - 7th, July, 2005



The 7/7 terrorist attacks were a series of calculated suicide bombings made by four Islamic extremists. The terrorists detonated three bombs in quick succession on the London Underground railway lines, and a fourth was detonated on London bus (above). The attacks killed 52 people, and injured over 700 others. It was the most devestating terrorist attack since the Lockerbie Bombings.

The face of terror - 7th, July, 2005



One of the most haunting images to come from the 7/7 attacks was the picture of this woman, 24 year-old Davinia Douglas, who emerged from the carnage clutching a gauze surgical mask to her face. after suffering devastating burns and scarring. Escaping the London riots - 7th, August, 2011



Between the 6th and 11th of August, several major cities in the UK saw violent and destructive riots break out after Mark Duggan was shot dead by police. The violent protests soon turned to complete anarchy, as people began attacking innocent people, looting and vandalising property. 5 people died in the attacks, including 68 year-old Richard Bowes, after a mob attacked him after he had tried to stomp out a bin fire. The woman in this picture is Monika Konczyk, who claims she had moved to the UK from Poland for a better life.

The Union Jack Headscarf - Diamond Jubilee, 2012



Pictured here with her son, this image of Yasmin Majid, dressed in a Union flag headscarf, became 'a true symbol of multicultural celebration' during Queen Elizabeth's Diamond Jubilee in 2012. Speaking to BBC News, she stated, 'I love the Queen and I love the royal family. I just wanted to make an effort and get here and be part of the celebrations.'

'Ms. Majid brought smiles to millions as a positive representation of cultural diversity in the UK.'

The tributes to a fallen soldier - 2nd, June, 2013



On the 22nd of May, British army soldier, Fusilier Lee Rigby of the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, was run over by two men near his barracks. The drivers of the car, Michael Adebolajo and Michael Adebowale, then attacked Rigby with knives and a cleaver, and attempted to behead him in the middle of the street in broad daylight, in order to avenge the deaths of fallen Muslims killed by British soldiers. Rigby was killed at the scene. His murder was condemned in the press and by political and Muslim leaders. The country came together to remember the solider who had served in Afghanistan, but died on British streets.

Defiant until the end! - 20th, March, 2013



Ronnie Biggs is one of the most notorious and celebrated criminals in British history. Biggs was a part of the 15-strong gang that carried out The Great Train Robbery in 1963, stealing a total of £2.6 million (equivalent to £50 million/$76 million today). After being sentenced to the highest sentence ever without murder, Biggs escaped prison in 1965 and spent 36 years as a fugitive. Biggs is pictured here at the funeral of criminal mastermind, Bruce Reynolds. Despite ill health leaving him frail, confided to a wheel chair and with the inability to talk, Biggs could still deliver this defiant gesture to the photographers.

The SAS storm the Iranian Embassy - 30th, April - 5th, May, 1980



After a group of 6 armed men stormed the Iranian Embassy and took 26 people hostage. After back and forth negotiations with the UK government, the Iranian gunmen became frustrated and killed one of the hostages and threw his body out of a window.

The UK government responded swiftly after a hostage was killed and sent in a team of British special force SAS specialists, who carried out an 11 minute raid, killing 5 of the 6 terrorists, and capturing the other.

Most of the siege was broadcast on live television and was the first time many of the UK population saw the SAS in action.

The SAS were all masked and wearing their gas-masks and trademark black-kits to keep their identities secret from the public.

The SAS had drilled holes into the walls of adjacent buildings to spy on the armed men and hostages, whilst very loud helicopter and workmen noise was created overhead and outside of the building to distract the gunmen and concealed the sounds of the drilling in adjacent buildings.

The Special Air Service absailed down the roof of the Iranian Embassy in London, threw explosive stun grenades into the building, burst into the blazing building, shot the terrorists dead inside their Embassy using their double-tap method, (the SAS are trained in KillHouse to kill terrorists immediately on-sight rather than to enter into any conversation with them,) and the SAS rescued the hostages.

Live Aid '85 - 13th, July, 1985



Live Aid was a duel-concert live music event held in Wembley Stadium, UK and John F. Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia, US. Arranged by music talents, Bob Geldof and Midge Ure, the charity appeal was to raise funding for the outbreak of famine in Ethiopia. 1.9 billion people watched worldwide, and over £150 million was raised. The photo shows Queen front-man, Freddy Mercury performing, in what is now known as the "greatest live performance" in music history.

Princess Diana holds hands with an AIDs Patient - 1987



“HIV does not make people dangerous to know. You can shake their hands and give them a hug.” The beloved Princess Diana helped to destroy the stigma and public misconception surrounding AIDs and HIV. It would be years after this handshake that the public discovered that AIDs could not be transferred through casual contact.

Lokerbie Bombing - 21st, December, 1988



The image above shows the destruction after the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103, which was flying from Frankfurt to Detroit, via London and New York. After a terrorist bomb was detonated on board the flight, all 269 passengers and crew on board were killed instantly, and large parts of the plane began to fall on the Scottish town of Lockerbie, killing a further 11 residents.

The Hillsborough Disaster - 15th, April, 1989



During a football game between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest at Hillsborough Stadium in Sheffield, the police allegedly allowed entry to too many fans. The influx of supporters into the stadium results in people being crush by the shear mass of humanity which had been filed into the stands. 96 people died in the disaster, and a futher 766 were injured.
