No. Haitian Creole does not sound like a Romance language. It sounds very African with some French words thrown in here and there.

I speak french, and also a Caribbean language very similar to Hatian creole, and i can tell you that the french-based creoles unfortunately have very few words coming from african languages.
Most of the vocabulary is modified old french words used with a simplified west african syntax. The words coming from Africa, or amerindian languages are generally either words regarding specific objects, dances or animals that did not have a french word for it, or very basic elements of the grammar.
So it sounds close to french if you are used to listening both of the languages.
