Telephone is not a national achievement, but space program and similar programs are. Of which canada does nothing at all.

China is working hard to gain an edge in tech and planning a moon landing soon. UK could do the same. So could canada. Nope, they would rather give out welfare to third world refugees and otherwise sit and rot and do nothing. They'd also rather use old medicines than research more and a hundred other things.

Most societies are corrupt and useless and don't do anything to progress.
