    Proto Indo-European:

    '(on the) left' •laiuo-
    '(to the) left' •seuio-
It's interesting to see how Latin had a word for left, laevus, coming from *laiuo-, but none of the Romance languages inherited it, because the left being the 'evil side', euphemisms or alien words were preferred in that time to avoid bad omens.

All the Romance languages spoken in Iberia and southern Gaul took the word for left from the Basque/Aquitanian/Iberian term used in the Pyrenees, ezker, maybe a compound using the root esk- 'hand' (Basque esku) and a Celtic kerr for 'twisted'. The result was:

    Modern Basque ezker(ra)
Portuguese and Galician esquerda, Spanish and Asturian izquierda
Catalan esquerra, Gascon and Languedocian esquèrra

However, the word for 'right' was maintained from Latin directa (vulg. derecta).

Portuguese direita, Galician dereita, Asturian and Spanish derecha
    Aragonese dreita
Catalan and Gascon dreta, Languedocian drecha/dreita

modern Greek-> same as ancient (Attic) version

right: dexiá (essentially means skill and capability. Latin dexter derives from this, English dexterity)
left: aristerá (same root as the word excellent-aristos)

other ways of saying it in Greek due to dialect or earlier years

left: zervá (means askew) + stravós (means askew as well) + skeós (means rough, rugged) + adéxios (negative of dexiós, which means clumsy)

well nothing else for right that I can think of

    In Italian, left is 'sinistra'.
