Is the "Third-World" Increasingly Becoming A Synonym For the "Islamic World?"

It is often pointed out that at the end of the Second World War the Third-World encompassed Christian Latin America, Most of Christian and Islamic Africa, and much of Islamic and Buddhist Asia. Today though, most of Christian Latin America and Africa and Buddhist Asia have pulled -or are pulling- themselves out of Third-World status leaving the Islamic World behind (save the artificially rich Oil-States).

With these developments is the "Third-World" increasingly becoming a synonym for the "Islamic World?"

My theory is eventually it will. They're the only Luddites not embracing modernity (besides some sects like the Armish and Orthodox Jews etc who aren't prone to violence like Muslims).

well modernity is also quiete western shifted on the other hand, predominantly western influenced, maybe different cultures can find their way to tradition+modernity in their own way

If you mean the spread of medicine, healthcare, environmental protection, human rights, technology, education, freedom of thought, speech and religion and democracy by imperialism then yes.

Say what you will about them but McDonald's did for food what Henry Ford did for manufacturing.
