    A lot of the literary words are of French/Latin origins, while the everyday words are Germanic/Norse. But pronunciation-wise I think it still follows Germanic rules. Don't quote me on this though, I'm not a scholar on the linguistics of English..A lot of the literary words when in writing appear very French IMO.
