Modern English more Germanic or Romance?

Compare English to Dutch and you tell me >.< hahaha! Seriously, Dutch (not just german) is incredibly similar. I can understand lots of German and Dutch without knowing how to actually speak those languages, while, without education in Romance languages, I could not just pick one up and understand it. My knowledge of basic Italian and Latin roots is what helps me. Dutch and German I understand based on my own language... ENGLISH!

Orkney* is* about 30-40% Norse, the rest is British. Most of the east coast south of the humber is not that genetically different from areas further England.

Interesting. In England, we consider the French to be the most feminine people. I once got into an argument with my American cousin about England vs America, and agreed with me on one point - that France was 'garbage, because it's like 75% gay.' But we consider the French accent, language and culture to be highly feminine, even outright gay - watch any comedy show.

That's funny because in the US the English males have the stereotype of being very passive and the most "gay" like of all the Europeans. We often hear a joke he's not gay, he's just british.

I used to date a French guy that was also half Italian and Spanish. Everyone kept warning me the French are assholes. I think it's still a him thing, but Idk lol.

Yes, but English has all the beauty of a Romance language and all the adaptability of a Germanic language and the vocabulary of both.

English neither has the beauty of a Romance language nor the full flexibility of most Germanic ones. It lost its specific flair and I frankly consider it a rather neutral language, if not charmless.

As for the question of the thread : it is a Germanic language, without any doubt.
