It would be nice if more lists like these actually came out of relevant bands of the last 20 years or so. You know, since I've been alive.
Spoiler!

This link discusses the top 50 American bands of all time. Leadchucker should be pleased to find his mentions all fall in the top 15
Hmm..
We could try a best of by decade....starting say in the 1950s?
I'll attempt this by picking one (okay a few) bands for each decade lol
1950s....er.....I don't like anyone from this decade too much. Just before my time I guess.
1960s....my favorite American band from this time period would have to be...The Doors....possibly Jefferson Airplane
1970s....my favorites won't be anybody else's and certainly won't be on any top ten list because they got nothing but shit from the critics over the years....still, they would be Styx, Journey, Kansas, and Jefferson Starship. Never was a fan of Van Halen despite the fact they started in LA. Alice Cooper deserves a nod for his influence over later artists such as NIN and Marilyn Manson
1980s....Guns n Roses, Ministry
1990s....NIN.....Nirvana....Alice in Chains....Soundgarden....Pearl Jam..... Can't tell where I live now can ya LMAO
I pretty much lose touch with modern rock after the 90s so I will leave those categories to the younger members

Creedence!!!!.
The Battle of San Pasqual was a military encounter that occurred during the Mexican-American War in what is now the San Pasqual Valley community of the city of San Diego, California. On December 6 and December 7, 1846, the Californios, and their Presidial Lancers, led by General Don Andres Pico, (1810-1876), defeated Stephen W. Kearny´s US Army column of 150 men.
