I cant wait what happens when this news brakes into anglosphere media. EU and US don't have to put in (pun intended) any sanctions. They are doing it themselves. How stupid can these Russian legislators be ?

Yeah, basically...very odd behavior. Trying to say they will embargo the dollar is just ridiculous, especially when their currency is shredded newspaper sweepings.

do you know what it means? it would mean a) capital drain from russia, b) possible reciprocate freezing of oligarchs accounts assets in the west. remember how the cyprus crisis literally catapulted them from chairs? this wouldnt be much different

No, that's very asymmetrical response. U.S has threatened to freeze personal assets of some Russia high ranking politicians/officials (ie. Putin's inner circle). Russia is threatening to confiscate assets of U.S / EU private enterprises and citizens at Russia.

Symmetrical response would be threaten to freeze Obama-administration's assets in Russian banks. I'm sure that would scare the shit out of them

They will pass the bill, then it's another topic if Putin ever uses that law. Who dares to invest to Russia after that ? Answer: Not a single investor. Instant economic suicide.
