I'd say not. The Irish got the name Gael from the Welsh. The old Irish word is Goidel from Old Welsh Guoidel "Irishman". That is the origin of Gael.

Apparently some source say it means raider/pirate. Funny that the Romans called the Irish people Scots, also meaning raider/pirate yaaar!
