Angry A question from a couple of Dutch...

A couple of us Dutchies were having a nice convers on msn, and TA came up.

Automaticly the question arose as to why you people need to classify all and everyone...

Are you afraid your not European enough? Are you afraid your heritage will get cursed? Are you fuckin' so insecure about your believed point of origin? Are you afraid you might be not so European?

What is it with you people?

From a recreative point of view it can be fun.

From an anthopologist point of view, it's a useful tool for separating ethnies and to reconstruct history.

On the other side, if you're trying to prove some kind of superiority based on physical traits then it's dumb.

Yep I am getting pretty annoyed by this.. Seriously.. the Christmas Humour topic had just been opened and in the start post there was a video of Mr.Bean, a wonderful video, I like the humor of Mr.Bean, but the 2nd post...

Thanks Aemma, but BTW, how would one classify Mr. Bean. I know he is British but very a peculiar looking chap.

He is not that peculiar looking, he just grimaces a lot.

I get just a little Armenian vibe from him.
6th post and then it stopped because this poster went on with the meaning of the topic..

You are right about this: classifications should remain in classification threads.

However if people want to post classifications in the anthropology sections, there is nothing wrong with that at all. People are curious about it for various reasons.

But yeah, Christmas humour threads need not be derailed in this manner. There is a time and place for everything.

To me the entire classification thing is just fun. It can help you to find out where your ancestors came from. Nothing more man.

Okay if people are in search of ancestry... But classifying ones parents or yourself is just to ridiculious... It tends towards a fear of not being European and in search of a positive answer about the whole.

Huge jump in logic, there is no way for you to know the motivation of people interested in classification of their families.

Hey man.. You seem to think you can get inside my brain, but you're wrong.

There are people which look very nordic, but turn out to be 25% Jewish in the end. To me it has nothing to do with if I am European or not, and you can't even be sure if you are when they tell you that you only look like you are.

To me it is just something interesting, to see from which location in Europe your ancestors came. If you don't like it, that's fine to me, but don't try to know what I am thinking man.

Old-school somatology may be a bit interesting taken for what it is, but classifying people from photographs is not serious business, and it is not high brow, but low brow, as I see it.

Another thing to keep in mind is that some people who go to look for these alternative viewpoint message boards feel that there are few places for them to vent on some things. Some of these individuals may be a little bit too open to suggestion for various reasons. A disproportionate and disproportionately serious focus on race may at times influence them to assume quite twisted and destructive ideas.

Personally I don't care about the classification from photographs, it is however a fun thing to do. Second it is a way to show one's ugly mug to the fellow posters here on the forum.

Concerning the classification of Mr. bean, that was in the wrong place on the wrong time.. It was good that Allenson resolved it quick.

I would also say the same for the thread were people post personal pictures. Sometimes you see here that others are giving classifications and, what I think is even worse, are bragging about how far one deviates from their beauty standard.
Such behaviour is not only an appaling lack of manners ,since no one gets to pick the way he/she looks, it is also low to those brave enough to post an image of themself.

The last time someone was insecure about my origin he demanded a picture from me. And who was that?....
