Wrong, actually you had more than several in Sub Saharan Africa. Good example is Ghana, followed by Mali Empire, Songhai, The Hausa state, Karem Borno, Ancient Axum, The Swahili, Benin, Nok, Yoruba, Sao, Ashanti, Funj and to a certain extent Zimbabwe, and the christian kingdoms of Ethiopa, Makuria, Nobatia, Alodia.
