Default Russia: Sanction McDonalds and deport the hamburger - health activists

    31.03.2014
Activists from 'Truth About Food' a Russian health-food NGO, carried out a symbolic deportation of the main idol of American fast food - a huge hamburger - from the country in Moscow, Monday. The actions follow threats the imposition of sanctions upon Russia from the West and the threat of more.

In retaliation, the activists proposed banning US fastfood both as a political act and to boost the health of Russians. The action took place in front of the first McDonalds restaurant, which opened in Russia in 1990, on Pushkin Square.

not many, though McDonalds is much more popular than any other fast food company, according to my observations of food courts in shopping malls

I would assume there aren't many McDonalds restaurants in Russia. In Australia they're pretty much everywhere. That might have something to do with it.

There are not many restaurants oustide touristic areas and business/office buildings, most eat at home anyway.
According to info i found, there are 422 McDonalds outlets in Russia (111 in Moscow)
    in 2012, annual turnover 55b rubles ($1.8b), net income 9b rubles ($0.3b)

I figured. There are 900 in Australia. Even in small country towns can you find them. Have you ever seen a McDonalds in Russia where you wouldn't expect to?

There's some good fast food places in US, but Mc Donald's is as bad as it gets. For health, for food quality, for basically everything. Burger King is not far behind. They should probably both be shut down as health hazards - everything is flavorless and full of sugar to cover it up.

Wendy's on the other hand, that is some good food for a national burger chain. I had an asiago spicy chicken club sandwich the other day. Holy moly, that was good. The beef in their burgers is good, too, though not quite as good as in-n-out.

And a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone, and cast it into the sea, saying, Thus with violence shall that great city Babylon be thrown down, and shall be found no more at all.

    Good idea, actually.
It's called fast food, because it is prepared quickly. You can not cook good food quickly (last time I tried to cook borsch with original recipe, it took 2,5 hours of my life). It is not surprising that it is harmful to the body. I tried KFC, Pizzahut, Papa John and other American junk food. In USSR time, we had something like public dinning rooms, so KFC (for example) can be seen as Westerner-type publc dining room. I think Russian food is closer to the Russians and tastes better, although it is also very greasy. And if we need some "fast food" it must be Russian food at its maximum.
