Action icon Steven Seagal has never been shy about expressing his politics, whether it'smulling a run for governor of Arizona or supporting controversial Sheriff Joe Arpaio.
Now, according to the state-run Rossiskaya Gazeta, Seagal has declared his affection for Russian President Vladimir Putin. Seagal reportedly called Putin "one of the great living world leaders" and that he "would like to consider him as a brother."
Seagal -- who is currently filming a movie in Romania -- came out in defense of Putin's seizure of Crimea. The actor said Putin's widely denounced actions reflected his "desire to protect the Russian-speaking people of Crimea, his assets, and the Russian Black Sea military base in Sevastopol … [and] is very reasonable."
The Machete and Under Siege actor expressed his dissatisfaction with U.S. PresidentBarack Obama, whose policy on Ukraine he labeled "idiotic." Seagal even went so far as to say he "may" apply for Russian citizenship in the future.
Seagal is also helping Putin promote a "Soviet-style" fitness initiative dubbed "Ready for Labor and Defense.”
