Why are tags not popular anymore?

If you look at threads from a few years ago you will see that they are littered with tags. But no-one seems to tag threads anymore. Why?

I'm a moderator and I never erase tags. I've never seen any other moderators do that either.

It's sad indeed, tags gave me the most lulz, especially when i wasn't a mod and couldn't see who wrote them.
