How different is the ukrainian language from russian and what truth is the're to the russian nationalist claim that ukrainian is a russian dialect, very little different from standard russian and that ukrainians are just a branch of the russian people, who were brainwashed by Habsburgs and communists into forgeting who they are and into hating Russians and mother Russia.

Yes! Some Russains think so. Also i heard theory that Ukraine as an independent state was created by Germans in 1918 as a part of military campaign against Bolshevik Russia.

Needless to say that all it's an absurd

Lol the last part is certainly undisputed historical truth. The ukrainian state created in 1918 was set up by germans as a puppet state, together with a few other former russian possesions made into states nominally independent and certainly autnomous, but with the aim of bringing them into the sphere of german influence and to exploit them economically and to serve as buffer states against russia as well. Although even as part of german sphere of influence they would still have more independence, with pro-german governments and german princes as kings and with cultural autonomy, than as russian provinces subjected to russification policy. The german mittleeuropa plans and the creation of satellite states in central and eastern europe in 1918 after brest litovsk treaty is real and mainstream history.

actually ukrainians are the real russians(ruthenians) and modern russians are finno-ugrians who adopted an eastern slavic language. The ukrainian language was heavily influenced by polish but is more conservative than russian.Ukrainians look similar to poles or western russians. But Some southern ukrainians(hutsuls) are more similar to balkan people and are darker than other ukrainians.Western russians who live near the ukrainian border are practically the same like ukrainians but other russians are mixed with finno.ugrians.The first russian(ruthenian) state was created in ukraine and kiev was the capital of these russian state(kievan rus)

Hm, what about ''russian speaking ethnic ukrainians''? Why are they speaking only russian or primarily russian and often think of themselves as russian or are very pro-russian, but are still classed as ethnic ukrainians. Doesn't make sense

Russian and ukrainian are different languages and far from being mutually intelligible. Russians might understand a word here and there but never entire sentences.

Half of Ukrainians talking in Russian. Ukrainian language is a mixture of Polish language with Russian and Belorussian.

Ksaya not quite right tells you. Then there was not Ukrainian. Russ was a common language. Over time, the language of Belarus and Ukrainian languages merged with Western neighbors, so it is slightly modified.

This is a map of Kievan Rus. Marked in red border. Our ancestors swam on drakkar rivers and floated into the Black Sea. Kiev was a good place for the capital. Language of our ancestors was a general. Eventually Russ conquered more territories. Kievan Rus is now Russia Belorussian.
