It doesn't matter if it was defeated in Spain or not, it was defeated in Portugal as well. The difference is that Portugal never became a satellite\vassal nation of France like the Spanish Kingdom did.

Spain and France signed the Treaty of Fontainebleau in 1807 to invade Portugal. I dont know how that makes Spain a vassal state.

Those "battles" you say on the "conquest" of Portugal are what we call here of escaramuças. It was more of a diplomatic crisis between two crowns than anything else.

It doesn't surprise me though that you put so much emphasis on it because historically obviously that Portugal has won almost every single decisive battle we've had with Spain (otherwise we wouldn't still be here as an independent sovereign nation).

You would wish. For start yes, during 60 years you left to be an independent sovereign nation, when Spain conquered you since 1580 until 1640. So thanks for proving what I am saying.
Ceuta being the proof of this, since left to be Portuguese and became Spanish forever after this war.

Second, it is false that Portugal defeated Spain almost every single decisive battle in our history.
The most important battle in this Spanish/Portuguese conflict was the battle of Alcántara because allowed to rule one of the countries by the other for 60 years. None other battle was so decisive.

Your main victory over Spanish (really only over Castilians, but whatever makes you happy) was that of Aljubarrota, and really only avoided that Castilla conquered Portugal. Even so, whereupon Aljubarrota Portuguese and English tried to invade Castilla but failed.

Some century later again Portugal tried to invade Castilla but it was defeated in the battle of Toro.

For last I want to add that now that you talk about Napoleon and blabla, it was thanks the war provoked against Portugal that Spain defeated you in 1801 and Olivenza became Spanish again and until now

Two years in 1580 is like two days nowadays, undoubtedly. You have to take into consideration that things didn't work like they do nowadays, were we are all interconnected with communications, planes, trains, cars, grocery stores, etc...things did take a lot of time during that era, considering the supplies were dependent on weather conditions and the crops and the all the logistic that was needed to reorganize an army.

In fact the war lasted three years, since 1580 until 1583, so really it were five years since the Portuguese defeat in Alcazarquivir.
