Applying physical anthropology to fiction... Am I the only one?

Actually, I do the same thing. I actually have a word document with all populations of populations I ever created. Each population has their history, language, ethnicity, and culture. I just like creating these things, but now I'm working on actually making them interact.

Creating a whole new world requires some big effort, at least if you want to fill it with new races, language families, belief systems, new plants, new objects, new architectural styles, fashion trends, national histories... But working on it, even if for fun, may also improve your knowledge on many fields.

You will be called nerd or creep for that by people who are probably unable to feel the pleasure of creativity. Then one day you start getting some money for that effort and you're not considered one any longer.

Because I am such a nerd (and dork), I apply my passion for physical anthropology to fiction. I make fictional people who inhabit fictional places, and make linguistic and genetic connections. I even throw in Apricity jokes (as far as certain looks these people have) for fun at times. LOL. I also throw in somewhat racist themes, but only as a joke, not 100% serious. For instance, me and my cousin created a nation called Munpai, derived from Moonpie, which is a society based off of African Americans. . LOL! I know, I am terrible.

I can show some of these ideas, lol.

The Federation of Borreby is a fledgling, safe nation, remarkable for its compulsory military service. Its compassionate population of 6 million are fiercely patriotic and enjoy great social equality; they tend to view other, more capitalist countries as somewhat immoral and corrupt.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, socially-minded government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Law & Order, Religion & Spirituality, and Education. The average income tax rate is 47%, but much higher for the wealthy. Private enterprise is illegal, but for those in the know there is a slick and highly efficient black market in Information Technology.

The tenet of free speech is held dear, voting is voluntary, organ donation rates are among the lowest in the region, and the right to free speech is being drastically curtailed. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is relatively low, thanks to the all-pervasive police force. Borreby's national animal is the wolf, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the Bobble.

Here's one of mine from a while back.

The Empire of Bestestland is a massive, safe nation, ruled by Leader with an iron fist, and renowned for its punitive income tax rates. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population of 2.422 billion are kept under strict control by the oppressive government, which measures its success by the nation's GDP and refers to individual citizens as "human resources."

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it devotes most of its attentions to Defence, with areas such as Social Equality and Religion & Spirituality receiving almost no funds by comparison. The average income tax rate is 76%. A powerhouse of a private sector is dominated by the Arms Manufacturing industry.

The government is cutting back on the number of political prisoners executed each year, the government seizes the property of the recently deceased, it is now illegal for teens to view any sites except Club Kitten and My Little Donkey, and military spending is on the increase. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Bestestland's national animal is the Raven, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to toxic air pollution, and its currency is the Gold Coin.

For example I created some sort of race of Elohim that are all albinos with red eyes. I also created a desert race based on certain Amerindians and Ainus that have hawk noses, and orange snake eyes. etc...

Too many examples to put with words. I might upload the whole notebook sometime.
