In the most important Catalan County, the one of Barcelona, only two of the counts, Bera and Sunifred, were Goth. The other 9 fell on the Frankish side: Rampon, Bernard of Septimania, Berengar, William, Aleran and Isembard, Odalric, Humfrid and Bernard of Gothia.
It is true that in the second most important county, the one of Urgell, things were different. But even where local counts were appointed, it was the Franks who did it, and the rulers of the territory. It is from the Franks that the Catalan counties became independent.
I wonder if this might even had something to do with the Western/Eastern duality of Catalan.
