    There could be only 2 scenarios on which that could be possible;

    1. You're a plump guy with some muscle naturally. You started working out, loss some water and some fat and you look sharper.
    2. You're ectomorph with mesomorph tendencies. That is, if you have very low body fat, any gain would be immediately noticeable.

    Other than that it's probably your imagination.

    Increasing strengh in the first year is very easy assuming you are on a good program. It is after a couple of years when the strengh gains come slower and you are near reaching your natural strengh limits is when it gets tougher.
