A Fencing sword or Rapier is fast but can't cut anything and it has only front attacks.

A Katana have both the cutting power and cutting speed with many different types of techniques. Easy to guard and easy to draw out and it's 100x more stylish aswell.

I can assure you, most of the people who think Katana is better than european swords are American and Europeans.
