When I was hearing this video, it seemed like someone was speaking Russian but using another words. But it's some Slavic language for sure.

I think we should blame Hungarians and Romanians for this division in linguist intelligibility between South Slavs and the other Slavs. I guess Serbo-Croatian and Slovenian would also sound unintelligible to you? But not to the same extent as Macedono-Bulgarian?

I suspect he'd have it easier with Serbo-Croatian because of the declensions. Other Slavs seem utterly incpapable of grasping the concept of article, leading to such comical statements as: аз, това чадър, не съм носил от малкото дете. The number of verb tenses in Macedono-Bulgarian is also far higher than in the rest of the Slavic languages.

I do not know about the Serbian and Slovenian languages. For example, when I hear Slovak, I understand somewhere 30%, if I read it - 40%, or at least understand the meaning. According to the East Slavic languages - I understand Ukrainian somewhere 60% by ear and 80-90% by reading, the Belarusian - about 90%, it seems to me that it's closer to Russian than Ukrainian.

Yes, Bulgarian seems far language to me. But I read a comment from Russian in Varna who said he learnt Bulgarian for 6 months. So it shouldn't be that far, some ppl say in Bulgarian, there are words as in Russian, the basis is the same but with meaning is different.
If I listen for example, Isihia, I understand what they are talking about.

A lot of their songs are in OCS/Old Bulgarian if I'm not mistaken.

It may well be since it's an ethnic music.
Though when I heard Adriana's song - I couldn't understand anything other than "davay, davay"
