Originally they were Levantines, but 2000 years ago they were exiled out of the Levant and moved into various regions throughout Europe, North Africa, Asia and other corners of the world. Now they are pretty much mixed between Levantine and the host country population. There is a sizable community in the New World, particularly the U.S. now, whom are usually Ashkenazi whom are the Northern/Northeast European Jews. So these people are mixed of European and Levantine ancestry. In Latin America, there are is a population of Jews and some Latin Americans that are unaware that they have some Sephardic Jewish ancestry (Sephardic Jews are the Jews from Iberia).
