Hmm, interesting historical note there. I was unaware that this book was such a weighty tome.

Indeed it is.. The first print of it was released in twelve separate books/chapters, all personally signed by Hitler himself and stamped by the Reicharchive...

The oldest book I have at the moment is some German etiquette book from just before WOI. The second oldest is I think the print of Der Untergang Des Abendlandes of Oswald Spengler.

The Works Of Alfred Lord Tennyson, Poet Laureate, 1902
I believe that legends and myth are largely made of
“truth”, and indeed present aspects of it that can only be received in this mode; and long ago certain truths and modes of this kind were discovered and must always reappear.

    J.R.R. Tolkien

Indeed it might be a basic characteristic of existence that those who would know it completely would perish, in which case the strength of a spirit should be measured according to how much of the “truth” one could still barely endure-or to put it more clearly, to what degree one would require it to be thinned down, shrouded, sweetened, blunted, falsified.
    Nietzsche

To God everything is beautiful, good, and just; humans, however, think some things are unjust and others just.

The Leading Facts of American History supposedly from 1920, I'm not one for actual old books but it was cheap and interesting and goes fairly well in to depth on some subjects.

A couple years ago I passed on a copy of Thus Spoke Zarathustra that was supposed to be a first edition, or it was at least quite old. I was poorer and in retrospect should have just bit the bullet and bought it. Ah well.

I have no old books as they are incredible hard to read due to the vast changes to the written language and their price tag. Even if I had millions I'd probably not buy rare old books as they are put to better use elsewhere ex. The Royal Library in Copenhagen or The State and University Library in Aarhus.
I had in fact to find my oldest book look through my cardboard boxes - it's a paperback!
Dr. Zhivago by Boris Pasternak from 1958. I bought it two and a half years ago in Copenhagen, when a friend of mine and I walked pass this book sale which were being held inside a church in central Copenhagen. I remember I thought that it had to be the best way I've seen a church being put to use. I also bought some Knut Hamsun, Jack London and William Faulkner novels that day. Nine books - 250 kr/~33 Euros/47 dollars. All Danish translations. Most of them were from the 70s.

    står mellem æblegård og humlehave.
    Dig elsker jeg!
    Danmark, mit fædreland!

    Cattle die, kinsmen die,
    the self must also die;
    but glory never dies,
For the one who is able to achieve it.
